We live in a troubled society,
questioning our foundation of morality and honesty.
This shakes me and others to our roots,
The outcome is a loss both nationally and personally.
We don’t know what the truth is.
Another outcome is a loss of civility.
Many have become more aggressive
with little to no politeness.
Manners have been lost.
The “gloves” are taken off.
How can we survive this lack of public and personal respect?
I have doubled down on being polite and kind.
I remind myself daily of my values.
When I encounter incivility,
I send that individual respect and kindness.
I pray for the welfare of others,
including those who run our country.
Close your eyes.
Breathe deeply and slowly.
Exhale anger and tension.
Picture yourself in a relaxing place.
Perhaps you are at the beach,
in a garden, paddling on a lake, etc.
Breathe deeply. Relax.
Exhale hostility and ire.
Visualize that someone cuts you off in traffic.
Can you let it go?
Imagine that someone treats you rudely.
Can you let that go or react civilly?
Imagine that you diffuse any anger.
See yourself breathing and relaxing.
Breathe in calmness.
Feel your body relaxing.
Let go of negativity.
Focus on being calm and breathing.
When you are ready, open your eyes.
Stretch and awaken.
Draw or write about ways you can remain
polite in today’s society.
Create a mantra for respect and kindness.
For example, “I live in a world of kindness,”
“I surround myself with love,” etc.
I restrict my time listening to the news.
I try to laugh by watching or listening to
I try to be polite and kind to others.
I associate with others who are moral and respectful.
If necessary, I call out rudeness, however,
I advocate for and live with morals and civility.
I believe each of us can make a difference
and create a more respectful society.
